Julie Smolyansky is the President, CEO, and Director of Chicago-based "Lifeway Foods," which was founded by her father; Mike Smolyansky. Mike Smolyansky came to the United States of American in 1976 from Russia and he founded Lifeway Foods in 1986. Lifeway Foods provides specialty dairy foods such as Kefir, Farmer's Cheese, and Sweet Kiss to stores such as Whole Foods and Wild Oats. After Mike Smolyansky died in 2002, Julie Smolyansky took over the company at the young age of 27.

Julie Smolyansky attended the University of Illinois studying to become a Psychologist however delved into the family business in 1997 after she realized she had a lot to contribute to the Marketing Strategies. After Julie took over in 2002 shares of Lifeway Foods have constantly been on the rise and an annual revenue of $27.7 million.

In October is 2007 Lifeway Foods, Inc. reported a record number of sales for the third quarter of the year (which ended September 30, 2007). The increase has been noted to be based on the Lifeway and Helios Kefir lines. This has put Julie Smolyansky in the spotlight of one of the top CEOs under 40.
